Well that is how it is for the games I’ve beta tested for that have online play as I’m a private beta test for a UK developer.ĭedicated online games may have their own servers and run the PSN network on them but that requires a bit more infrastructure to do that and I think with D3 on Consoles given how light it must use servers (99% PSN 1% Season start and Leaderboards and nothing else game related) I think Blizzard most likely rent the Console servers?Įither way they have administrative capabilities ie as you say maintain servers but they may not be Blizzard servers but they just rent Sony servers. I expect XBOX to be no different.Īs I understand it Dave the devs of any game can rent Sony servers and put their game bits on them.
Sony have confirmed that Blizzard has, and maintains, its own LB servers on the PSN platform at least.
